We can all agree that home decorating can take a lot of money. It isn’t hard to forget what you’re doing and get caught up in the “vision” of your home instead of keeping track of what you spend. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, trying to create a good look and feel for your home can be incredibly stressful. Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend you can still create a wonderful decorating scheme.
Put your furniture in new places Believe it or not sometimes decorating your home (or redecorating your home) could be as easy as putting your existing furniture into new positions. To get inspiration look through the books in the home decorating section of your local library. There is no rule that says a couch needs to make physical contact with a wall-move it closer to the center of the room. Don’t leave your bed where it is-move it to another wall or put it in the corner. Instead of focusing your family room around the television, focus it around a fireplace or coffee table. Let the television be an afterthought. Put your kitchen utensils in creative containers and let them decorate your countertops. Creating a new feel for your home can be as simple as finding new locations for your existing possessions.
Start visiting craft fairs. There is a lot of inspiration to be found at craft fairs and by getting to know the artists in your area. You can find decorations for a range of prices at craft fairs. Local craft and art fairs usually feature mostly the same artists, which can be a major benefit. Getting a discount on the art you buy can be as easy as one of the artists that you talk to remembering you from a previous craft fair.
Learn your way around the internet. Artists like sculptors, photographers and others are always selling their work through the internet. If you are looking for handmade goods for affordable prices you can usually find great stuff on Etsy. If you’re interested in browsing photography for free, you can look through Flickr, a site where photographers post their portfolios for viewers. You can also purchase decorative art through artist’s personal websites. Ebay and Amazon are no longer king for people looking for art online-lots of artists create websites that they use to sell their art.
Start surfing Craigslist or the classified section of your local newspaper. There are lots of home decorating bargains to be found in these areas. Some simple surfing could you net you enough to decorate your whole home in just a matter of a few hours. If you want to save yourself some time you might even place an ad yourself that tells people what you are looking for. This can save you lots of time because then people can come to you with what they’re selling. Take time to be careful! It is a good idea to thoroughly inspect each item you want to buy before actually handing over cash for it. So many families get caught up in the idea that expensive is the same as good when that simply is not the case. Decorating ideas are everywhere-just look at the homes of your friends. Look at how they decorate and then ask yourself “how can I do this for the money I have in my wallet right now? Home decorating does not have to cost lots of money. Decorating can even be done for free!
